In Spain, Arrested a Ukrainian who Robbed Banks in 40 Countries around the World

The hacker group has caused more than a billion euros of losses to banks in more than 40 countries around the world, using the malicious software.

In Spain, detained the Ukrainian hacker, the head of the cybercrime syndicate, who attacked 100 financial institutions around the world. This was reported by Europol, the Financial Times reported on Monday, March 26.

According to Europol, the gang brought more than 1 billion euros of losses to banks in more than 40 countries around the world, using malicious software known as Carbanak and Cobalt.

The tactics of the gang included programming cash dispensers to issue cash at a set time, which was selected by gang members, as well as manipulations with electronic payment networks. Profits criminals were laundered using the cryptocurrency.

Various agencies were involved in the operation to expose the gang, including the Spanish police, the European Banking Federation, private sector banks and security companies, the FBI, the authorities of Belarus, Taiwan, and Romania.

As the Spanish edition El Mundo writes, the 34-year-old Ukrainian Denis K. lived anonymously in Alicante with his wife and son and was arrested on March 6. Now he is in prison in Spain, the case will be transferred to the National Court.

According to the Spanish Interior Ministry, the criminals managed to organize hacker attacks on 300-400 Russian banks. Out of 50 Russian banks, money was stolen.
