Microsoft lane with Chile government to fight cybercrime

Microsoft company has signed a cooperation agreement with the Chilean legal professional general’s office to provide consulting on the utilization of technological tools and methods for tracking and catching cyber criminals.

Lawyer general Jorge Abbott said in a joint declaration that the agreement sorts part of a six-year strategy (2016-2022) to grip down on crimes regarding abuse of intellectual property, trafficking of child porn and more}.

Microsoft’s Latin America president Cesar Cernuda declared that Microsoft would provide IT tools to aid forensic research, data storage space, and statistical analysis.

The firm declared that a key part of the contract is helping integrate these technology tools with other state bodies besides the legal professional general’s office to facilitate a more harmonized approach.

One example is Microsoft’s PhotoDNA technology, which computes “hash values” (which condense large amounts of data into smaller number values) of images, online video, and audio track files to identify similar images.

PhotoDNA is mostly used in preventing child pornography. This is employed with Microsoft’s own services Bing and OneDrive, as well as by Google Gmail, Twitter, Fb and the National Middle for Missing & Used Children, to whom Microsoft company donated the technology.

In 2015, Chile became the first Latin American country to join Microsoft’s authorities Security Program (GSP), becoming a member of the likes of the Russian federation, China, the UN, and NATO.

Created in the year 2003, the GSP provides nationwide governments with access to source code for Ms products, transparency centers to work directly with source code, vulnerability and risk intelligence from Microsoft, technological information about Microsoft products and services and “GSP for Cloud” capability.

The previous month, Microsoft opened a Cybersecurity Engagement Center in Mexico to support attempts in this country towards digital transformation and the building of robust and dependable cloud computing platforms.
