In Windows 10 appears on the extortion virus protection

By Prempal Singh 0 Comment July 1, 2017

In just a few months, Windows users are faced with two massive hacker attacks. In May and April, worldwide virus WannaCry hundreds of thousands of computers were infected.

In late June, the situation is repeated, but the main purpose was Ukraine. Petya virus for some time literally stopped the work of banks, shops, utilities, underground, and a huge number of different companies. Under attack were also some Russian companies, including “Rosneft” and “Bashneft”. As it turned out, Microsoft is not going to just watch it all from the outside. The Redmond company is already testing a new function of controlling access to folders that should protect users from future attacks.

After the epidemic WannaCry Microsoft company promptly released an update for Windows (including the no longer supported versions) that corrects the vulnerability that the virus used. The recent situation in Ukraine shows that this is not enough, as many companies have not upgraded to new versions of Windows and did not install the required security update. Therefore, Microsoft decided to develop a method that can help protect users, even if they do not install security patches.

In future versions of Windows, the new function “to control access to folders” should appear designed to control access to critical folders. If any application tries to perform an unauthorized access to the data, the user will be notified of the possible danger.

The “control access to folders” will be integrated into standard utility “Windows Defender” in the future upgrade from Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, which was released in September. It will allow users to keep track of each folder on your computer, network resources, and external drives. Thus, virus-coders can not in any way harm the user’s data.

As reported, the folder “Documents”, “Pictures”, “Video” and “Desktop” will be protected by a new default function, but other places can be added at its discretion and to give certain applications access to protected data.
