Facebook to Offer End to End Encryption
By Prempal Singh
Recent years has seen how End-to-end encryption has become more important as end-users be concerned about hackers or, in some cases, even government authorities breaking into their conversation messages. We have already seen the improvements made in the conclusion to end encryption feature of social software like Whatsapp. Soon Facebook is also to follow the actions and provide its users the end to end security feature.
The end to end encryption feature will be switched off by default unlike Whatsapp containing it on by default. The feature would allow the Facebook user who wishes to talk secretively to opt for the “Secret Conversation” and choose a suitable message expiry time which is often between 5 seconds to over 6 several hours. The message can be received during the placed time frame only, later it will be automatically deleted after it has been read by the receiver.
Facebook official published saying “Our technology uses the Signal Protocol developed by Open Whisper Devices, ”
Facebook further described the reason behind making the Secret conversation as optional features declaring – “That’s because many people want Messenger to work when you change between devices, for instance, a gadget, desktop computer or mobile phone. Secret conversations can only be read on one device and recognize that experience might not exactly be right for everyone. ”
End to End encryption feature is the more important with Facebook coming up with new features, like financial transactions between users.
