SC seeks Centre’s response on special cells on cyber crime

Since cyber crime cases authorized practically a 300% rise between 2011 and 2014, the Supreme Court wanted a response from the Center on Monday on establishing of exclusive cells to probe such crimes, including cases of offensive videos being circulated through online communities. The Centre experienced in last year December told the apex courtroom that the government had decided to set up NCCC (National Cyber Crime Coordination Center) to exclusively manage cyber crimes and nationwide security issues in coordination with other agencies.

The government, nevertheless, on Monday failed to inform the court about things used by it towards constituting NCCC. A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and U Lalit objected to the Centre’s distribution that officials of the ministry concerned were busy in Parliament session and wanted two weeks’ time to file an affidavit. “Nothing has happened in the last one year. You needed to be filed affidavit last 12 months however, you forgot to take further steps. You are now saying that your officials are busy in the parliament session. Do you feel that we are seated here for nothing”, the bench said.

The court directed the Center to file an affidavit in a week and published the situation to November twenty-eight. The court had used suo motu cognisance on growing number of internet crimes in the area on a letter written by Hyderabad-based NGO, Prajwala, to the main Justice of India displaying that nine rape videos being circulated through WhatsApp. Completely directed CBI to probe all the instances.
