Email Phishing Scams – An Unsubscribe confirmation request is a long-running scam email campaign that pretends to be seen an uptick recently. These emails should never be responded or clicked as they are designed to perform some type of scam or to harvest working email addresses. The scam aims to gather active email addresses which can be used for various scam campaigns.

“Confirm your unsubscribe request” or “Client #980920318 To_STOP_Receiving These Emails From Us Hit reply And Let Us Know” are the similar subject lines which the scam emails consists of.

The scam emails don’t contain any type of information or indication of what things you are unsubscribing from,unlike normal unsubscribe notifications. Besides, these emails come in a different variety of templates, with some being more professional looking, While others, not so much

The emails have an attachment of a link and requests users to click on the link in order to unsubscribe. By clicking on the link, it will compose a new message with Unsubscribe as the subject, and it aims to send it to 15 to 20 email addresses. 

The emails are from domain hosted by which provides free dynamic DNS services. Upon sending the email, the scammers behind this will get a list of active email addresses.The list can then be sold to other scammers or can be used in various other scams.

Email address will not be removed by clicking on “Unsubscribe” in a fraudulent email in the scammer’s list, but it will do one or both  of the following:

  • Verify for the scammer that your email address active and valid address by making it more valuable to the scammers in the future.
  • Or the link will redirect to a malicious website that downloads malware in your computer and/or trick you for a scam offer of some sort.

A list of live or active email address is created  by spammers that can be used for more email scams.The list of email can then be sold to other scammers or used for their own purposes.

It is always recommended to never open any email or click on any attachment /link that is from anonymous senders.Upon opening the link, if you’re asked to send an email to 15-20 email addresses, do not send the email and simply delete the email.
