Kaspersky Lab Presents the First Cyber Security Index

By Prempal Singh 0 Comment September 17, 2016

Security company Kaspersky Lab has launched the Kaspersky Cyber security Index to measure the current cyber threat levels that online users face.

Kaspersky Laboratory has previously worked with B2B International to bring out regular large-scale internet surveys in several countries, in order to judge how Internet users, behave online, what their concerns are, what issues they face and how they defend themselves against possible threats.

The Kaspersky Cybersecurity Index is founded on this data, collected from hundreds of users across the globe.

The Cybersecurity Index, described as 21-29-60 shows that one-in-five users (21%) currently believe he or she is threatened by anything online. Simultaneously, almost one third of users (29%) have fallen sufferer to cybercriminal schemes (for example, 8% have experienced their accounts hijacked and 22% have experienced their devices infected by malware).

On the other hand, only 60% of users have installed security alternatives on all the devices they use to get into the Internet. The Index shows that, today, many users underestimate cyber threats even after facing them, which has an effect on their security online. It was based on a survey performed in 21 countries that leg techniques off in august 2016.

“We created the Index to draw the attention of users, the median vendors to the concern of cybersecurity. Many users today, we believe, do not expect to come face-to-face with cyber threats, so they fail to set up security solutions on their devices and behave thoughtlessly online. This makes them easy targets for cybercriminals. The Index reflects the results of this strategy: today, 29% of men and women have been afflicted by online threats. We are contacting on all Online users to improve their cyber savviness and adopt an accountable approach, ” said Andrei Mochola, Head of Customer Business at Kaspersky Laboratory.

The index will incorporate three indicators which will be measured every 6 months to examine the amount of risk. The ‘concerned’ indication shows the percentage of men and women who believe they may be targeted with a cyber attack. This indicator shows the degree to which users realize the risk to which they are exposed.

The ‘affected’ indication identifies how many people have fallen victim to cyber-attacks during the reporting period and the ‘protected’ indicator will be the number of users who have installed a security solution on the device they use to get into the internet.
