India to see 65% rise in mobile frauds in 2017: Study

With all the surge in digital deals via e-wallets and other online payment gateways, mobile frauds are expected to grow to 60-65 percent in the area by 2017.

The joint study by Assocham and research firm EY, entitled “Strategic National Measures to Combat Cybercrime”, said a secure cyberspace and the government`s initiatives in keeping tabs on cybercrime have grown to be important conditions for your business to set up, operate and flourish in any region.

“Mobile scams are areas of great concern for companies as 40-45 percent of financial transactions are executed via mobile devices and this danger is expected to grow to 60-65 percent, ” the research noted.

Debit and Credit card fraud cases top the chart of cyber crimes and there has recently been a six-fold increase in such cases in the last 3 years.

“According to the information, about 46 percent issues of online banking related to/credit/debit card fraud accompanied by Facebook-related complaints (39 percent — mostly morphed pictures/cyber stalking/cyber bullying), ” the research said.

Other major internet or cyber complaints were cheating through mobile (21 percent), cracking of e-mail ID (18 percent), abusive/offensive/obscene calls and SMS (12 percent) while others.

Enforcing data security steps and creating proactive security monitoring functions are essential for an organization to maintain a lead over growing threats and protect their financial, intellectual and customer-related information, the study said.
