BHIM: Top App on Google Play Store, Downloaded 3 million times in just 3 days

Regarding what could be a proud moment for each and every an Indian and a huge achievement for Modi government, the country’s indigenous digital payments software BHIM has been downloaded 3 million times and it is the top android application in India on Google PlayStore.

Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant on Monday enlightened that the application has been downloaded 3 million times and also 5 lakh transactions conducted since its launch on December 30 by PM Modi.

“Bhim App – 3 million downloads since launch, No 1 on Play store in India between all apps, over 5,00,000 transactions since release.  #MakeinIndia, ” Kant said in a tweet.

Inside a bid to further push adoption of e-payments in the country, PM Modi on December 30 launched the BHIM app that will permit fast and secure cashless transactions using cell phones.

Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar (Architect of the Indian Constitution), the Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is a simplified payment platform designed to make Unified Repayment Interface (UPI) and USSD payment modes simpler and usable across feature cell phones and smartphones.

Produced by National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), BHIM is supported by the host of banks, including SBI (State Bank of India), ICICI, Axis, HDFC, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Oriental Bank of Commerce and Punjab National bank, amongst others.

The app, which is often downloaded from Google Play store, happens to be available in English and Hindi and support to get more different languages is expected soon.

BHIM is interoperable to UPI (Unified Payment Interface) applications and bank accounts.
