Million of Android Users Became Victims of the Site for the Production of Cryptocurrency –
Web service Malwarebytes described a new method of earning crypto currency using devices on Android, which affected millions of users.
Attackers used malicious ads that redirected people to a specially crafted web page. After moving to the page, the device began to extract the Montero crypto currency, until the user entered Captcha.
Cybersecurity expert of Cyberops Infosec says that It is not known exactly how many victims suffered from this simple method of attack. Malwarebytes identified five Internet domains that used the same Captcha and campaign identifiers. These domains are visited by at least 30 million users per month. Visitors to the sites spend an average of 4 minutes on them. It is difficult to guess how much money they manage to get for the authors of the attack.
Malwarebytes recommends that phone owners on Android use programs to protect devices so that they do not become victims of such simple schemes. The likelihood of getting to the site that helps third parties to clear the crypto currency is also significantly reduced if you download applications only from the official Google Play store.
