After attack on Yahoo, Cyber-security expert offers tips

By Prempal Singh 0 Comment September 23, 2016

Yahoo users are being advise to change their security passwords and security questions after 500 million customers were hacked.

“It’s kind of a domino effect”, said Ronald Nutter, a cyber-security consultant and writer of the book, “The Hackers are Coming” “Once they can get in, they’ll carry on until there’s nothing left.”

Nutter said in some cases, the hacks and digital damage can cost thousands and take several weeks to repair.

“It’s not only individuals that need to be concerned about this Yahoo! situation, companies are applying this for social media and various things, they need to be just like concerned if not more, ” Nutter said.

Nutter said every account should have an unique accounts information that includes capital letters and special character types, when possible.

“Over fifty five percent of these who have online accounts use the same password on every account, ” Nutter said.

Nutter encourages people to choose a password administrator to keep their security passwords secure.

“Use a security password manager because that will help make the process easier, ” Nutter said.

Nutter said there are a large number of resources to choose from, but he uses “MSECURE. ”

He said they’re safe and some can even sync across multiple devices and systems.

“Unfortunately, that’s the way things are at this point. We have to land on the unpleasant rather than the defensive” Nutter said.

A listing of password managers can be found online.
