A hacker going by the name MuslimLeets (aka Muj4hida) conducted targeted cyber attacks up against the American Human Rights Council (AHRC) and 62 other websites, affecting businesses including those run by doctors, lawyers, real estate businesses and more. The websites were defaced with communications calling for jihad.

AHRC executive director Imad Hamad confirmed the hack in post on the organisations’ website, adding that hacker had somehow gained gain access to their servers. The site’s webhost Novocam as well as law observance authorities are currently looking into the attacks.

Novocam creator Mohammad Abdulaziz also verified that the hack came from from AHRC and then spread to a large number of other sites on the same server, Detroit News reported.

“We must be doing something directly to be targeted by extremist organizations, ” said Hamad. “That shows that these people don’t have any tolerance; actually they have hate to the culture of human privileges and human dignity. We are going to alarmed because of it, but we’re not ruffled, and we won’t give up for their tactics, which is to spread fear; and make us think even though we are in the usa, we’re not safe, and they can get to us. We’re determined to keep moving forward to fight against this kind of hateful thinking”.

Among those sites afflicted were those owned by two local Arab-Muslim organisations the – American Muslim Leadership Council (AMLC) and the Arab and Muslim American Political Action Committee (AAPAC). Both sites were completely shut down because of this of the hack.

Grammatically poor messages left by hacker

The hacker left communications on each of the websites, written in grammatically poor English, which read: “This message for Muslims peoples! ” “Our siblings in Syria & Middle east & Iraq & Burma & Chichan & Ifriquia & asia are declining Stop follow and replicate western people in Incorrect culture And forget about your religion. This concept is for The government authorities of all worlds! We do not admit to the Wrong law. My personal law is quran. All of us are going back. Asalamu Alaikum. ”

Most superior attack so far

Novocom founder declared that the company regularly defends itself against hackers trying to infiltrate their systems. Yet this specific incident was one of the most complex to be mounted against the firm. “There are efforts once a week approximately to hack our machine, but this is by far the most superior hack we’ve seen”, he said. “I have seven network (administrators) attempting to figure out what the source is”.

According to a a survey by Softpedia, Muj4hida apparently conducted a two-day cracking spree between 14 and 16 September, targeting a total of 63 websites.

Despite the attack, AHRC is decided to move forward. “We are amazed that we were assaulted by these hackers. Yet, this attack does not intimidate us at all. If you help advertising of human rights, it is natural that you would be hated and attacked by radical terrorists who hate human legal rights and the advocates of human rights, ” said Hamad.

Novocam said the messages have already recently been taken down. Abdulaziz said. “We’re just going to destroy the old machine, ” he said. “All websites like these have a back-up, which is restored in the next few hours”.
