Safety lessons for teens on cyber crime by police

New Delhi: By cybercrime increasing enormous proportions, Delhi Law enforcement officials has started a program by which teenagers will be taught safe online practices to avoid becoming a sufferer of criminal on the social network and the internet. The big event was live tweeted by Delhi Police on Tuesday.

The module on cyber safety, started by law enforcement chief Amulya Patnaik, will be first imparted to computer teachers who will, subsequently, pass the knowledge on to children in their schools. Law enforcement will also be educating parents about the crimes.

The top cop also released a manual for examining officers providing a detailed set of how they should enquire cyber crime cases.

“The idea of holding a program involving teachers began to ensure that children learn about cyber security the day they start learning about computers, ” said Delhi Police spokesperson and special commissioner (operations), Dependra Pathak.

Children are vulnerable and often become victims of cybercrime because of their inquisitiveness and curiosity while using the internet. The awareness initiative began to sensitize them and prevent them from falling victim to cyber crooks. “In earlier times one year over 800 policemen have recently been trained in cybercrime analysis, ” said an elderly police officer.

Over 120 teachers from 114 colleges attended the program made by the cyber cellular of Economic Offences Side. Till date, 423 computer teachers from 302 colleges have attended the seminar.

The awareness module contains presentations, short films, videos, quizzes, FAQs, and handouts on Dos and Don’ts of using the internet. The technical experts of Delhi Police also tackled queries regarding cyber risks and safe online practices asked by teachers and students.

Patnaik also featured the value of effective recognition and investigation of cyber crime complaints in addition to the preventive measures carried out by the police.
