The number of virus-miners increased seven-fold – McAfee –
Victims of virus-miners are not only ordinary users, but also entire companies, including the manufacturer of electric vehicles Tesla.
In January-March 2018, 2.9 million varieties of viruses were detected, infecting the computer and secretly using its capacity for mining crypto-currencies. This is stated in a study by McAfee.
In the previous quarter, the number of such viruses was only 400 thousand, that is, for three months the indicator jumped 7.3 times.
Victims of virus-miners are not only ordinary users, but also entire companies, including the manufacturer of electric vehicles Tesla and insurer Aviva. They do not incur direct material losses, but the performance of their information systems can be significantly slowed down due to a lack of capacity occupied by the virus.
“As the cost of crypto currency, cybercriminals are increasingly engaged in the development of viruses-miners and the theft of crypto-currencies,” notes Steve Grobman, Chief Technology Officer of McAfee.
Earlier, First Deputy Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv instructed to make mining (production of crypto-currency) in the Classifier of Economic Activities (KVED).
