Google engineer has found another vulnerability in Windows Defender

By Prempal Singh 0 Comment June 27, 2017

Security specialist Tavis Ormandy of the Google company has once again found a vulnerability in the Windows Defender antivirus of Microsoft. To the credit of the latter, she was again released a patch very quickly.

Ormandy is part of the Google Project Zero safety program, in which he discovered a vulnerability on June 9, and without revealing it publicly, he reported this at Microsoft, to give developers time to release a patch. Project Zero Policy states that the vulnerabilities are published 90 days after they had been reported to the developers.

Microsoft did not waste time in vain and have released an update, so last Friday Ormandy published a description of the vulnerability. Once again it was shown that no sandbox antivirus engine is vulnerable.

The bug affects the x86 emulator in Windows Defender that Microsoft intentionally did not include in the sandbox. Users are required to update the engine Malware Protection Engine to version 1.1.13903.0. Check the version of Windows 10 may be in the Application Settings> Update and security> Windows Defender> Version subsystem. Windows 10 by default will automatically receive updates for Windows Defender.
