Apple Released Meltdown and Specter fixes for El Capitan Sierra and High Sierra –

Apple has blocked the methods of hacker attacks Meltdown and Specter on the last 3 generations of macOS.

Recently, it became publicly known about the vulnerability in Intel-based computers because of a function called speculative execution. Hackers have developed several methods of exploiting the vulnerability, and the most popular of them are called Meltdown and Specter. With these breaches, attackers can gain control over the system.

In Intel, they hurried to release their own fix, but it turned out to be not perfect and can cause the computer to hang. Apple recently released its own patch Meltdown and Specter for macOS High Sierra, after which access to the patch was also received by owners of devices on macOS Sierra and OS X El Capitan.

Apple claims that the official update for the Mac does not contain errors that Intel made.

Owners of devices on OS X El Capitan can download the update 10.11.6, which recently appeared in the App Store. Users of macOS Sierra need to look for version 10.13.3.

Judging by Apple’s statement, the official fixes for Mac block popular methods of attack but do not fix the vulnerability itself. The company’s specialists continue to serve the problem and are ready to take other security measures.
