Am I Paranoid Enough?

In today’s world, it never hurts to be too paranoid when it comes to cybersecurity. Cybercrime has been stable in the recent year and there is no sign to go slow.  Approximately, cybercrime will reach approx $2 trillion by 2019. Cybercrime has increased three-time from 2015.

There are some precautions to minimizing the risk of becoming the next victim of a cyber crime.

1. Cover Up That Webcam:

There have been a lot of stories which is appeared over the year of people being noticed through their laptop webcam. In 2014, a man was arrested and sentenced to 18 months in prison for hijacking the webcams of several young women. There are multiple websites dedicated to the sole purpose of webcam spying.

2. Choose Strong Passwords and Keep Them Safe:

It is also important to keep your password different for different online accounts. Do not choose the same password for your all accounts, it means using the same key for all of your locks. And make sure to keep password lengthy and contain multiple different characters, numbers, and symbol. There is also a good idea to change your passwords regularly.

3. Do not Store Your Credit card Information on Website:

There are lots of breaches and online retailers are rear. They still theft your data, so it is better to play it safe when it comes to your bank account and credit card information.

4. Make sure You Only Shop on Secure Sites:

When we entered on any website its URL says “https” and “http”.  If the “S” is not there, the site is not secure.

5. Secure your Computer:

Make sure your all antivirus and software program are up to date and your firewall is activated. It is important to scan regularly for any malware, Trojan horses, and other malicious software that can be used to obtain your personal information.

6. Play it Safe on Social Media:

Do not post pictures of your plane tickets, vacation, or any kind of pictures where everyone knows that you are currently away from your home. Anyone can misuse your pics. Even if you post a photos or posts that can be only seen by your friends, but you never know who may be looking at your information through your friends’ accounts.
